What a great year it has been! I have learned so much, including this new hi-tech way of connecting to my family, friends and everyone who has stopped in and visited richmatters.com in 2009.
It has shown me that there are so many ways that we can be a part of one global community. We speak of this one-ness and find it so difficult to truly understand how closely we are a part of each other’s lives.

It’s late evening once again, my favorite part of the day, here in front of my fireplace, dancing flames, strings of twinkling colored lights and soft music, turning my room mystical, it seems.

As my cheeks started to numb, I quickly retreat inside, choosing instead, a cup of hot chocolate and a warm fire. It is bitterly cold as the last remnants of a Western Canadian blizzard, now empty of wind and snow, unsure of invitation from neighboring provinces, firmly plants itself, deciding to linger for a few more days here in the foothills.

Oliver Wendell Holmes has suggested that ‘many people die with their music still in them.’ If he’s referring to the sounds I’m trying to produce with my piano, I agree. The music is still in me somewhere!
However, I don’t think he was referring to my attempts to play the piano, although he himself was a poet and writer of songs. I think he meant the part of our lives that I call our shadow, the part that is always there, but in the background.

Some time ago I did a WordPress upgrade and temporarily lost my blog site. It took me a few days to get it back up and running. How? Was it because I just needed to make a few changes to fix a few things…..or was it just pure luck after floundering around for the time I was down? Yep, it was all about floundering.
I was totally surprised when I ‘did some stuff’ and voila! There it was again!

I’ll try to make this short because I think we are on the same page. Maybe just a reminder, however? I know I always need a bit of a tuning up from time to time! There is an expression called ‘preaching to the choir’ that comes to mind today, and yet I feel compelled to say a few words. (dammit, it still sounds like preaching, but…)
Watch some of the TV talk shows, and you may notice, as I did, that generalizations are the most common form of interaction when talking about the foibles of others. Okay, that’s a generalization but you know what I mean.
